Pro tip: swapped my gas mower for a reel mower in Phoenix and got a surprise I did not expect
I bought a $95 reel mower off a guy in Tempe last month to cut my water bill and my yard guy laughed at me. The first week I swear I spent 40 extra minutes per cut because the Bermuda grass here is thick and tough. What nobody told me is that the grass came back greener and fuller after about three weeks, since the reel cuts it like scissors instead of tearing it. My neighbor asked what fertilizer I switched to and I had to admit it was just the mower. Has anyone else gone manual in a hot climate and did your lawn bounce back like this or did you give up?
Man, I feel this in my soul. I lasted about two weeks with a reel mower in Tucson before I gave up and went back to gas, so you're a way stronger person than me. My Bermuda was so thick that the thing would just ride up on top of the grass instead of cutting it, and I'd end up with these janky patches that looked terrible. The heat out here does not play around either, I was drenched in sweat by the time I finished a quarter of the yard. Hearing that yours came back greener after three weeks almost makes me want to dig that thing out of the garage and give it another shot.
