Rant: Skipping the gym to bike everywhere isn't the climate win everyone says
Lots of folks act like ditching cars for bikes fixes everything, but what about safety and time? (I tried it for a month and nearly got hit twice.) Now I carpool twice a week instead, which still cuts emissions without the stress. Honestly, pushing bike-only plans ignores how risky roads can be for regular people.

Totally get that - I just got better bike lights and it cut my close calls in half.

Still using the lights that came with it, so that's on me.

Yeah, I swapped to a super bright rechargeable headlight last winter. The stock ones just don't cut it when it's actually dark out. It's a TOTAL game changer for seeing potholes early. Mine even has a pulse mode that really gets drivers' attention.

My buddy Mark learned this the hard way last year. He was using those dim stock lights and hit a pothole so deep it bent his rim. After that he got one like @the_julia is talking about, a really bright one. He says it feels like riding in daylight now, and cars actually give him space. Makes you wonder why they even sell bikes with those weak little lights.
