Serious question, why is the Whole Foods on 5th still handing out plastic bags when there's a compost bin right outside?
I walked out of the Whole Foods on 5th Street in Austin two days ago with a bag full of groceries and it hit me. Every single item in my cart was wrapped in plastic, the bag itself was plastic, and the store has a giant green compost bin sitting right by the exit doors. I stood there for a second just staring at it. The bin says they compost food scraps but there's no place to put the bags, so all that plastic is going straight into the trash anyway. I asked the guy at the register if they had a bag return program and he looked at me like I asked him to solve a math problem. He said corporate decides that stuff and he just does what the screen tells him. So here we are, a store that sells organic kale and $9 juice, and they can't figure out paper bags or a simple bin for the plastic ones. Has anyone else noticed their local store doing stuff like this, or is it just the one near me?
