That solar panel install in Phoenix last July taught me to always check the microinverters first

I spent 6 hours troubleshooting a dead string before I realized the microinverter was just fried from heat, has anyone else dealt with this kind of issue on a rooftop job?

Oh man yeah I was totally the same way until last summer. I used to think microinverters were pretty bulletproof since they're not under a ton of load like string inverters. Then I had a job on a south-facing roof in July and one of the units just wouldn't wake up. I swapped panels, checked connections, even rewired the whole branch circuit before I finally realized the inverter itself was cooked from the heat. Lesson learned hard. Now I always check the serial numbers first because some models just aren't rated for that kind of sustained heat.

That hot roof thing cracks me up because it's the same pattern everywhere - like how everyone thought all lithium batteries were bulletproof until the whole e-bike fire thing happened. Some stuff just doesn't get tested in real extremes until it's already in the field.

the whole e-bike fire thing" is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Everyone just assumed lithium was safe until a bunch of cheap batteries started lighting up apartments. It's the same with solar gear - we treat it like it's indestructible until real world conditions prove otherwise. Manufacturers test in labs, not on a black roof in Phoenix at 3pm. And by the time we figure out what fails, there's already thousands of units out there installed.
