The guy at the Portland repair cafe fixed my $12 toaster instead of letting me toss it, and now I'm hooked
Went to a repair cafe in Portland last month just to get rid of stuff cluttering my garage. Brought this old toaster I was about to trash. Volunteer named Dale poked at it for 20 minutes, replaced one little wire, and it works fine. He said the average small appliance gets chucked after 4 years and most of it is an easy fix.
That got me thinking about all the junk I buy and toss without even trying. Now I hit up repair events instead of replacing stuff. Fixed my blender and a lamp so far. Less mining, less shipping, less trash.
Anyone else got a repair cafe or fix-it clinic near them? What's the weirdest thing you've gotten fixed?
