Tried to teach my neighbor about composting and her dog ate the whole bucket
I set up a little compost bin in my backyard in Boise two weeks ago and my neighbor asked if she could learn how it works. I gave her a quick rundown and a small bucket of scraps to start her own pile. Ten minutes later her golden retriever knocked the bucket over and ate half the apple cores and coffee grounds before we could grab him. She was mortified but I just laughed and told her the dog probably has the best gut health on the block now. Anyone else had a pet completely wreck their compost setup, and did you switch to a sealed bin after that?
Coffee grounds are actually the one thing that dog shouldn't have eaten. Caffeine is bad for dogs, so keep an eye on him for a while. Apple cores are worse too since the seeds have a tiny bit of cyanide. Probably fine in small amounts, but a vet call wouldn't hurt if he got a lot. And yeah, a sealed tumbler bin fixed this exact problem for me.
