Update: My neighbor called me out for over-watering my garden
Last month my neighbor across the street asked if I knew how much water I was wasting on my tomatoes. At first I got defensive, but then I watched her drip irrigation setup and realized she was right. I switched to a soaker hose and a timer from the hardware store, and now I use about 60% less water. Has anyone else had a neighbor give them a reality check like that without meaning to?

Wait, so she just called you out across the street? That takes guts honestly. I would have been so embarrassed I probably would've just pretended I didn't hear her. Ngl, I've definitely been that neighbor though, I yelled at these kids once for using a hose to fill up a kiddie pool and letting it run for like an hour. But it's cool that you actually listened and switched things up, most people just get all defensive and keep wasting water.

I get what you're saying, but I gotta wonder if this whole thing is maybe getting blown out of proportion. You yelled at kids for using a hose too long, and she called someone out across the street for watering at the wrong time. I mean, it's water, not gold. I think we've seen so many drought warnings over the years that folks just jump on anyone they see with a sprinkler. Honestly the bigger waste around here is all those lawns nobody even uses, but nobody's yelling about that.

You know Sam, I think you've got a point about those lawns. I live on Maple Street and there's three houses in a row that water their grass every single morning even when it's rained the night before. I've always felt like that's a much bigger problem than a kid with a hose for ten minutes. It's tough because everyone gets so worked up about the small things they can see happening right in front of them. I appreciate you being reasonable about it.
