A tool grinder in Dayton asked me why I zero off the vise jaw and I could not give him a real answer
Ran into him at a shop swap meet in Dayton last Saturday and he watched me dial in a 4140 block by touching off the fixed jaw like I always have. He asked what happens when that jaw has 0.0008 of wear in the middle and I just stood there, because the truth is nobody ever taught me anything different in 9 years. Now I am second guessing every first op I run, so do you guys zero off a ground block or a probe instead, and did it actually cut your scrap rate?
