The carbide end mill I sharpened by hand changed my finish quality

Last month I got tired of waiting on tool shipments and tried sharpening a used 3/8 inch carbide end mill on a diamond wheel. I figured it would just get me through a quick job, but the surface finish on the aluminum parts came out smoother than any new tool I've used lately. The trick was taking off only a few thousandths per pass and checking the cutting edge with a loupe after every few strokes. It took about 20 minutes total, but that little extra effort saved me from stopping production for two days. Has anyone else had luck hand sharpening carbide, or am I just fooling myself that it lasts?
