The week my 1998 Haas nearly cost me a $9,000 job and it was all one setting
Two weeks ago I took a job cutting 400 aluminum brackets for a shop in Fort Worth and the first 60 parts came off the mill with a finish like sandpaper. I chased tooling, coolant mix, and spindle speed for three straight days before an old hand from the day shift asked to see my G-code. He pointed at one line and said nothing, but my feed rate was in inches per minute on a program written for inches per rev, so the tool was basically rubbing instead of cutting. Fixed it in two minutes and the next 340 parts came out clean as glass. I felt like a rookie, but it taught me to read the whole program before pointing a finger at the machine. What is the dumbest setting slip that ever cost you real money on a run?
