TIL I was running my spindle speed wrong for 2 years

I caught it last week when a guy from a Haas demo day asked why my finish pass was screaming. Turns out I'd been using the same SFM for aluminum and steel the whole time, just guessing on the override. Has anyone else had a basic setup principle click late and cost them a pile of broken inserts?

Lmao that's brutal, honestly. It's like finding out you've been driving with the parking brake on for 2 years, except instead of a burning smell you got a pile of dead carbide. My favorite part is you just "guessed on the override" like the machine was a slot machine. I once ran a whole job with my coolant at 10% because I thought the knob was for the radio volume, so I feel your pain on a spiritual level. At least the HAAS guy didn't film it for a demo reel, which is more than I can say for my shop's mistake.
