TIL that 90% of coolant mist violations come from not checking the nozzle angle regularly

Saw it in a safety report from a shop in Detroit and after checking mine I found the mist was blowing straight into the vent, anyone else run into this with their Haas machines?

Our shop probably has like 4 coolant violations in the last 5 years and they were all from the guys using too much pressure on the washdown hose. I've never even heard of a nozzle angle getting flagged on its own. Is this really that common or is the Detroit shop just being super strict about everything? The coolant mix concentration thing makes sense though, I run mine at 7% and it barely mists at all even when the nozzle is pointed wherever.

Honestly I had the same issue on my VF-2 about six months ago. The coolant mist was getting everywhere and I couldn't figure out why until I got a mirror and saw the nozzle was aimed at the chip auger slot. I ended up grabbing a cheap magnetic base indicator off Amazon and using it to set the nozzle angle at exactly 15 degrees down from horizontal. That little change cut the mist in the air by like half. Also realized my coolant mix was too thin which made the mist way worse, so I bumped it up to 8% concentration. Now I check the nozzle every Monday morning before I start the first job and it's been solid ever since.

Ha! @sethm58 I feel like you just wrote a whole novel about coolant mist and I'm here for it. Glad you got that nozzle figured out though, sounds like a real pain in the ass.
