Warning: I used to skip the warm-up cycle on cold mornings.

My machine made a noise like a dying animal and spit out a part shaped like a banana. Now I let it warm up every time.

That banana part was probably your drive belt. They curl up like that when the rubber gets cold and brittle.

So you're saying the cold makes the rubber brittle? But why does it curl up exactly like a banana? I've seen belts crack or snap, but the curling is new. Does it happen fast or over time? Is there a way to prevent it, like storing the car inside? Just wondering if this means the belt is totally shot or if it can be saved.
