My friend said 'just start with Python, it's easy' and I'm calling BS
I tried it for a month and got stuck on installing packages and virtual environments... that's not beginner friendly at all. What's a better first language that actually works out of the box?

Totally agree about the setup. Try JavaScript in the browser, it just works.

Used to tell everyone to start with Python too, but man you're totally right about the setup stuff. I mean idk why people act like that part is easy. Maybe try JavaScript instead? You can just open your browser and start typing code in the console to see it work, no install mess. It feels way more like actually making something right away.

Your friend gave you the classic "it's easy" line, huh? Classic. The setup stuff is a total wall for beginners. Piper's right about the browser console, you can at least see something happen without fighting your computer for an hour.
