TIL that Python's first version came out in 1991 and I started learning it 30 years later
I was reading an old blog post by Guido van Rossum and it said Python 0.9.0 was released on February 20, 1991. That was way before I even had a computer at home, and now I'm here in 2024 trying to write my first for loop. It kinda blew my mind that a language I'm just starting with has been around longer than my marriage. Does anyone else feel weird learning something that old as a total beginner?

I get that feeling. When I started learning C a few years back I found out it was from the early 70s and that weirded me out too. What helped me was to stop thinking about the age of the language and just focus on writing tiny programs that did something useful. I did 15 minutes a day, no big goals, just one small thing like a loop or a list. After a couple months the "this thing is ancient" feeling went away because I was too busy fixing my own dumb mistakes. The age really doesn't matter, the basics are the basics and they still work the same way they did back then.
