I finally switched from a blade grinder to a burr grinder after 10 years
For the longest time I used a $20 blade grinder from the grocery store. I figured coffee was coffee and it all tasted fine to me. Then my daughter bought me a Baratza Encore for my birthday last December. At first I thought it was a waste of money but decided to try it anyway. The first morning I made a pot with the new grinder the difference was huge. The coffee was smoother and had way less bitterness. I could actually taste hints of chocolate in my usual beans. Now I can't go back to the old grinder. Has anyone else had that moment where a simple switch changed your whole morning routine?

Honestly, @skyler_kelly69 is right, the oil release makes a huge difference.

Did you read that one study where they tested blade vs burr and found burr grinders actually release more of the oils from the beans? That's probably why your coffee tastes so much better now.

Burr grinders absolutely crush blades for flavor no contest. @casey342 the oil release is real you can literally smell the difference when you grind. My cheap blade grinder left bitter dusty grounds while my burr one gives smooth rich cups every time. Tried switching back once and regretted it immediately.
