I finally tried the 'third wave' pour over everyone raves about and I'm not sold

Last weekend my buddy took me to this spot in Denver where the barista talked about bean origin for 10 minutes before even grinding. They charged $8 for a cup and honestly my $3 drip at the diner down the street tasted just as good to me. I mean maybe I have a boring palate but the fancy stuff felt more about the ritual than the actual drink. Anyone else feel like the hype is mostly about the show, not the coffee?
