I heard a barista in Portland say something that stuck with me

I was waiting for my pour-over at a small shop and the barista was talking to a regular. She said, 'I don't think about making coffee fast, I think about making time taste good.' That simple line really hit me. It made me slow down my whole morning routine today. Instead of rushing, I focused on each step of grinding and brewing. Has a simple phrase ever changed how you make your daily cup?

Man, that's a great line. I started doing something similar by just focusing on the sound of my grinder for a full minute, not touching my phone. It turns the whole thing into a little ritual instead of a chore. You notice the smell more, the way the water blooms. It's crazy how a small shift like that can make a cheap bag of beans feel like a treat.

That's a really beautiful way to put it. It's easy to forget that the whole point of the morning is to actually live it, not just get through it. My mind is always racing ahead to the next thing, so that idea of making time taste good is a total game changer. It makes the coffee itself feel like a bonus.

Oh totally! I read this article about how the smell of coffee grounds can actually lower stress. So now I make a point to just breathe it in for a second before I even start brewing. It sounds silly, but that little pause makes the whole process feel less rushed.
