I was dead set against single-origin beans but now I'm a total convert
For the longest time I thought single-origin coffee was just a hype thing (like paying $8 for a latte in Brooklyn). I stuck with blends because they're consistent and cheap. Then last month a buddy forced me to try a washed Ethiopian from Yirgacheffe at a shop in Portland. The blueberry and lemon notes hit me so hard I actually checked if they added flavor syrup. I've spent about $45 on single-origin bags since then and I can't go back. Has anyone else had a coffee snob moment that totally changed your mind?

Whoa, I read this article the other day about how the soil in different regions actually changes the chemical makeup of the bean. It's wild to think about. That Yirgacheffe stuff is no joke, I had a similar moment with a Kenyan AA that tasted like blackberry jam. Blends are fine for everyday but single-origin feels like you're actually tasting where the coffee came from, not just... coffee.

Oh wow, my friend Joe had the same experience with a Costa Rican single-origin last month!

Totally agree, that Kenyan AA blew my mind too with that berry taste.
