My brother insisted I grind beans right before brewing, and he was SO right

I used to buy pre-ground for months, thinking it didn't matter. He gave me a cheap hand grinder for my birthday, and the first cup from fresh grounds in Denver tasted like a completely different drink. Anyone have a good budget electric grinder they'd recommend?

Yeah, @avery260 is right about the Encore being a workhorse. Read a bunch of reviews that said the same thing, how it's easy to fix if a part breaks. That fresh grind really is a game changer, isn't it? Makes the whole kitchen smell amazing too.

The Baratza Encore is a solid starter electric grinder. It's a bit of an investment but lasts forever.

Wait, is it really that serious? I mean yeah, fresh ground tastes better but folks act like pre-ground is basically dishwater now. I've had perfectly fine cups from a bag that sat on my shelf for two weeks.

My buddy was the same way, swore his pre-ground was fine. Got a grinder as a gift and called me almost mad about it, like "why did nobody tell me my coffee could taste this good?" He said it was like going from stale crackers to fresh bread. That Encore people mention is what he ended up with after the hand grinding got old. Thing is still going strong three years later.
