PSA: My grinder was making a weird clicking sound for a month

I thought it was just a loose bean or something, but it turned out to be a tiny piece of a broken burr that had chipped off (I must have hit a rock or something). It took me literally four weeks of ignoring it before I finally took the whole thing apart and found the culprit. Has anyone else had a grinder burr chip on them, and is it a sign I need a replacement set?

Is it really a sign you need a new set though? I mean, that tiny chip probably didn't mess up your grind consistency that much unless you were pulling shots for espresso. Most people can't even tell the difference between a perfect burr and one with a little nick unless they're really looking for it. I'd say just pick out the broken piece, run some rice through it to clean it out, and keep using it until it actually breaks or starts giving you uneven grounds.

Four weeks of that sound would have driven me insane.

Honestly, the worst part isn't the noise itself. It's the total loss of control over your own space. Your home stops being a place you can relax, and turns into a source of constant stress. That psychological grind is what really breaks people, not just the decibel level. You start feeling trapped.

Get some good earplugs, the kind with a high noise reduction rating. Pair them with a white noise machine on your nightstand. It drowns out the sharp edges of the sound so you can actually sleep.
