Pulling my 5,000th shot at home and it hit me harder than I expected
I got a cheap lever machine back in 2019 and started pulling one shot most mornings, nothing fancy. Last week I looked at my little notebook and the tally crossed 5,000 shots, which caught me off guard because I honestly thought I was only around half that. Somewhere in those 5,000 I quit chasing other people's brew ratios and just started tasting and adjusting by feel. My beans went from whatever was on sale at the grocery store to a local roaster here in Fort Collins that I've been buying from for about two years now. The weird part is my shots got more consistent after I stopped weighing every single thing and started paying attention to how the puck looked and how the flow felt. 5,000 shots and I still can't nail a light roast Ethiopian, but I'm miles ahead of where I started. Curious how many shots other folks put in before it really clicked for them.
