That barista in Chicago told me my favorite roast was over-extracted and I didn't talk to them for a week
They pulled a shot of my go-to Ethiopian from that local spot and showed me the difference side by side, and I gotta ask, has anyone else had their whole coffee routine wrecked by one honest observation?

That thing about "one honest observation" wrecking your routine hits hard. It's like when you finally notice someone's bad habit and then you can't unsee it, whether it's a friend always interrupting or a squeaky door hinge you somehow ignored for months. Coffee's just one of those things where a good barista can ruin a perfectly fine morning by showing you what you've been missing. Once you taste the difference, your brain files it under "this is how it should be" and you can't go back to the old way without feeling like you're cheating yourself. It's a curse more than a favor, honestly.

@taylor_wells that's exactly it, the curse of knowledge. It's like when I finally learned how to shuffle a deck of cards properly after years of just clumsily stacking them. My buddy showed me this one riffle technique and now I can't even play a casual game of poker without getting annoyed at the way other people shuffle. The barista probably did you a favor but it feels like they took something away.

Man that's so true. The same thing happened to me when a buddy showed me how to actually sharpen a kitchen knife right, now I can't eat at most restaurants without getting annoyed at how dull their knives are.
