The $32 pour-over kettle that turned me into a kitchen nightmare

Bought a fancy gooseneck kettle last month thinking I'd be a barista genius, but I forgot it was electric and tried to use it on my gas stove, melting the base and almost setting my counter on fire. My cheap $12 stovetop kettle never betrayed me like that, anyone else had a gear upgrade that backfired hard?

I used to think the fancy stuff was always worth it too, totally get the "barista genius" dream. But after reading about your melted base, I'm actually rethinking my whole setup. I was this close to buying one of those electric ones last week, and now I'm kinda glad I didn't. My old stovetop kettle is ugly and slow but it's never tried to burn my house down, you know? I guess sometimes the boring, cheap thing is the one that actually works. You're making me feel way better about sticking with what I got.

That stovetop kettle never melted a base, so you're already ahead of the game.
