Was dead set against flavored coffee beans until a buddy forced me to try his hazelnut roast
I spent years swearing flavored coffee was just artificial junk for people who don't actually like coffee. A buddy of mine from Portland brought over a bag of locally roasted hazelnut beans from a place called Extracto last month. I tried a cup black and it actually tasted like real toasted nuts, not syrup. Anybody else been surprised by a flavored coffee that didn't suck?

Extracto does solid work but one good bag of hazelnut doesn't mean most flavored coffee is worth the money.

Bro same! I had this exact thing happen with a coconut flavored roast from a small roaster in Colorado. I rolled my eyes so hard when my buddy handed me a cup but it was legit just a nice hint of toasted coconut, not fake candy taste.

Hazelnut is probably the easiest flavor to not mess up because it actually goes with coffee. Coconut too, I guess. But one decent bag from a local spot doesn't change the fact that 9 out of 10 flavored beans are just dumpster juice with a squirt of almond extract. People act like finding a single good batch is some kind of revelation. It's just coffee with a hint of something, not a miracle.
