Why does nobody talk about the grind setting for a French press?
Last month in my Chicago kitchen, I realized my coffee was way too bitter because I was using the same fine grind as my drip machine. Anyone have a good starting point for a coarse grind on a Baratza Encore?

The Baratza Encore at like a 20 to 22 setting is what I landed on after a month of bad coffee and a lot of swearing at my grinder. I used to think I was a coffee genius, but turns out I was just making mud water with my fine drip grind. fionamurphy is right though, it is just coffee and not curing cancer... but man, bitter coffee will ruin your whole morning vibe faster than a cold Chicago commute. I mean, sure, go with the rough sea salt look, but does anyone else check their grind with their fingers to make sure it's not too fine? No, just me then.

Honestly, people get so intense about French press grind size. It's just coffee, not rocket science. I used to stress over it too but then I just went with what looked like rough sea salt and it worked fine. The Encore's coarse setting is probably fine, just don't go to the absolute max. Tbh if it tastes okay to you, that's all that really matters.

Right? Why do we overthink it so much. My best cups came from just eyeballing it, not measuring.
