Bus driver at Comic-Con noticed my Silver Surfer shirt and stopped to talk for 10 minutes

I was waiting at a bus stop in downtown San Diego during the last Comic-Con. This older guy pulled up, saw my shirt, and yelled out the window asking if I knew the issue where Norrin Radd first meets Galactus. He parked the bus right there and jumped out to show me his tattoo of the Surfer on his forearm. We stood there going back and forth about the Lee/Kirby run while his bus just sat empty. Has anyone else had a random stranger totally derail their day over a comic book?

You know, I used to roll my eyes at people who'd stop everything for a comic book talk, but this kind of thing actually makes me want to wear my old Fantastic Four shirt more often. A real moment like that beats scrolling through Reddit any day.

Wait, so what was the actual moment that made you change your mind? Like was it a specific conversation with a random stranger at a coffee shop or something you overheard at a store? I'd be curious if it was a younger kid nerding out about a variant cover or an older collector sharing some beat-up Silver Age issue. Those kinds of real world interactions just hit different because nobody's trying to farm likes or start an argument, they're just genuinely excited about something.

Sure, @rowanw91, next you'll tell me a barista changed your life with a side of espresso.
