Finally tried a 90s indie comic after avoiding it for a decade

I kept skipping anything from the old Image or Vertigo era because I figured it was all edge and no story. Last weekend I picked up a beat-up copy of Sandman #8 from a shop in Portland and actually got why people hype it. The way the issue weaves the dream narrative with the horror stuff just clicked for me, and now I'm hunting down the rest of the run. Anyone else have a series they slept on for years and then ended up loving once they gave it a real shot?

Used to roll my eyes at anyone going on about Sandman, figured it was just pretentious goth stuff. Reading that issue flipped a switch for me too, now I’m digging through back issue bins for the rest like a maniac.
