Guy at a comic shop in Denver wouldn't stop telling me how to read Watchmen

Last Saturday at Mile High Comics, this guy in his 40s saw me pick up a Watchmen trade and spent 20 minutes explaining why I needed to read it in real time to 'feel the panels' or something. He kept grabbing my arm and saying 'no, you don't get it, the grid layout is the whole point.' Has anyone else had a random fan try to dictate your entire reading experience like that?

Mile High Comics is a great shop but I swear every city has that one guy who treats his favorite book like a sacred text you're not worthy to touch. It's the same energy as the dude at a record store who lectures you for holding a vinyl wrong.

Three weeks ago I watched a guy at a hardware store explain to a kid why he was holding a paintbrush wrong for like ten minutes. It's the same thing where someone wraps their whole identity around being the gatekeeper of some random hobby. Makes me wonder if these people even enjoy the stuff they claim to love or if they just like feeling superior about it lol.

Ugh, I read an article about this type of fan behavior. It's exhausting.
