Honestly, the best comic con I ever had was when I skipped the big panels

Tbh, everyone at the Chicago con last year was rushing to see the Marvel movie preview. I spent the whole Friday just talking to a few artists in the small press section. One guy, Mike, showed me his sketchbook from 2012 and we talked for like an hour about his process. I got three amazing signed prints for about $80 total and had real conversations, while my friends waited in line for four hours. Does anyone else find the smaller, quieter parts of cons more rewarding than the main events?

My friend Sarah totally ditched the big gaming tournament at PAX to hang out at a tiny booth run by two guys making a weird puzzle game. She ended up testing the whole demo with them, and they ordered pizza and just talked about old point-and-click adventures for three hours. She said it was the most fun she's ever had at a con.

Sounds like she found the REAL tournament, the one for best pizza and weird game ideas.

I had a similar thing happen at GDC last year, @oliviabutler. Spent an hour at a tiny indie booth playing a broken gardening sim and giving feedback. The devs were so grateful they gave me a hand-drawn sticker. Those little moments are what I remember most.
