Hot take: I actually prefer reading trades over single issues now

Had a convo with my buddy Mike at the shop last Tuesday after he saw me grabbing the new Ultimate Spider-Man trade. He was like 'you're missing the whole point of monthly reading' but honestly I got tired of waiting 30 days between cliffhangers. Plus trades are cheaper in the long run, like $15 for a full arc versus $4 each for 6 issues. Does anyone else feel like the story just flows better when you binge it all at once?

Man you nailed it with the "binge it all at once" thing. I got tired of the 30 day wait too, especially after a big cliffhanger like issue 5 of something where you're just hanging for a month. What worked for me was switching to trades and then just grabbing single issues of the stuff I really love, like anything by Hickman or the current Immortal Hulk run. The money adds up fast with singles, and I can actually remember what happened by the time the next trade drops.

Hate to be that guy, but Immortal Hulk actually ended a while back - that run wrapped up with issue 50 in 2021, so you might be thinking of something newer. Still totally agree on waiting for trades though, that's the only way my wallet survives comics these days (well, mostly).

Issue 5 of anything is the worst for cliffhangers. That's when you're fully hooked and then nothing for a month. I tried the single issue thing for a while and ended up with a stack of comics I forgot to read and a lighter bank account. Trades are the only way my brain can keep up with a story anyway.
