My cousin's first SDCC trip had those huge organized signings. I used to crave the messy swaps, but seeing her actually meet her hero without any hassle totally flipped my view.

My first con was all homemade costumes and swap meets in hotel basements. The whole thing had a totally different, kinda messy energy back then.

The fire marshal would shut down those basement swaps in five minutes now. Honestly the professional safety checks and big name guests make it way more fun for everyone. That old DIY mess just meant half the events never even happened lol.
