My Wednesday at the shop turned into a total back issue goldmine
Last week I stopped by Charlie's Comics in Cleveland to grab the new issue of my pull list, and the owner mentioned he had a long box of 90s Image books he was about to put on the sale shelf. I asked if I could flip through it first, and he just shrugged and said, "Knock yourself out, but don't expect much." That box had about 140 comics in it, and I ended up finding a near-mint copy of Spawn #1 with the gold foil cover, plus a full run of early Savage Dragon that someone had bagged and boarded perfectly. He only charged me $40 for the whole lot, which felt fair since he thought they were all dollar bin fodder. I got home and checked the prices online, and just the Spawn #1 alone goes for around $90 in that condition on a good week. It reminded me that sometimes the best hauls come from asking the right question at the counter, not from hunting online. Has anyone else had luck digging through boxes that owners were ready to clearance out?
