Overheard a comic shop owner say graded books are ruining the hobby, fair take?

Was at a Wednesday drop in Portland and the owner told a customer that anyone buying slabs over reading floppies is missing the whole point of comics. He said 80% of his sales now are graded books and it's killing the local community vibe. Do you think collecting for investment is actually hurting the fan scene, or is it just gatekeeping by old school readers?
