Seeing my friend skip gym for comic cons got me thinking about fan health
Honestly, if comic book fans spent half as much time on their fitness as they do debating canon, we'd all be in better shape.

Exactly. That deep dive into a made-up world's logic is practice for untangling real problems. When you piece together how a character's past explains their choices, or debate the rules of a magic system, you're sharpening the same focus you need to fix a tricky work issue or plan a big project. The gym trains your body to handle stress, but getting lost in a good story trains your mind to sort through a mess.

But isn't the real question why someone would choose to invest so much in a fictional world's rules instead of their own physical reality? What does that escape provide that the gym doesn't?

Fictional worlds offer a kind of mental exercise that physical places like the gym can't provide, @drew934. They let people solve complex problems and experience stories that stretch their thinking. That creative escape often helps folks come back to real life with new energy and ideas.
