Shoutout to my little brother for changing my mind on collecting

I thought collecting comics was just hoarding junk. He showed me his first issue from our grandma. Explained the history behind it. Now I see it as saving stories. Helps us remember family too.

Totally get the "saving stories" thing. My dad had this beat-up old Superman comic in a toolbox, and just seeing the cover makes me remember how he'd read it to me when I was sick. @anna717 is right to ask about which family member it makes you think of, because that connection is the whole point. It's like holding a little piece of someone's past.

Ask which family member that first comic makes him think of most. That connection seems really special.

Was it the humor or the situation that made them think of that person? I mean, sometimes a comic just hits a tiny detail that feels super specific to one relative. Idk, it's cool how those little things can bring someone to mind so fast. Makes me wonder what their own story is with that family member.

You ever notice how the weirdest stuff can make you think of someone? My grandma used to save those little butter tubs, and now every time I see one I remember her fridge full of them. It wasn't about the container, it was about her whole "waste not, want not" vibe that stuck with me. Makes you realize how much of a person gets tied up in small habits.
