Shoutout to the guy who brought his own reading light to the midnight release
I was at the 'X-Men Red' #1 midnight launch at my local shop, Comics & Stuff, last month. The store lights are always harsh and give me a headache after about twenty minutes. This dude next to me just whips out this little book light, clips it to his issue, and reads in perfect comfort while we're all waiting in line. I was stuck squinting under the fluorescent glare like a chump. He said he picked it up for five bucks at a gas station. The difference was night and day, literally. I bought one the next day and it's a total game changer for reading in bad light anywhere. Anyone else have a cheap piece of gear that just makes the whole comic shop experience better?

Squinting for a few minutes never hurt anybody" is a wild take when the alternative is just... not squinting. Next you'll tell me we should all stand in the rain because umbrellas ruin the vibe of a storm. Let people enjoy their five dollar comfort in peace.

Gotta be honest, this feels like overthinking a simple wait in line. It's a comic shop, not a library reading room. The harsh lights are part of the vibe, man. Squinting for a few minutes never hurt anybody. Bringing your own gear just turns a fun event into a whole production. Seems like extra hassle for a tiny bit of comfort.

People get really attached to the way things have always been done, even when the way they've always been done is kind of dumb. It's like the whole "that's just the way it is" mindset that keeps us from fixing things that are clearly broken. A little squinting might not kill you, but neither does wearing sunglasses on a sunny day, and nobody argues that's an overreaction. We spend so much effort defending minor inconveniences when a tiny adjustment makes the whole experience better for everyone involved. Why not just let people grab whatever makes the wait easier and call it a win?
