Showerthought: My $200 custom frame for a first print comic was a total lifesaver

Found a mint copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 at a garage sale for cheap. Spent more on the UV glass and acid free backing than the book itself. Did I go overboard or is that just smart collecting?

Total lifesaver" seems a bit much for a comic book frame. It's just paper in a box, not an actual life preserver.

Hey man, you're not wrong. My wallet definitely feels lighter after saving some "lives" last week. Bought a frame for a beat-up X-Men #1 reprint that cost more than my first car. The comic's worth maybe twenty bucks. It's now safe from air and light forever, which is more than I can say for my bank account.

Honestly, what's the point of having a cool collectible if it just fades away on a shelf? I read this article about how even indoor light can wreck paper over time. So spending on good protection for something you care about isn't crazy, it's just finishing the job. I mean, you already found the thing, why let it get ruined now? It's like buying a nice car and then never changing the oil.
