Struggled 3 weekends to sort my long boxes by publishing era

I finally decided to organize my collection after my basement got damp and ruined a few issues. The obvious move was to sort by decade, like 80s, 90s, 2000s, but it turned into a nightmare. I kept pulling out comics that crossed eras, like a series that started in 1989 and ran into 1992, so I had to keep looking up dates online. After three full weekends and about 14 hours total, I got it done, but my back is still sore from crouching over those boxes. Has anyone else found a faster way to do this, or do you just accept the mess and use bag labels instead?
