That conversation with a collector at a kitchen table in Tulsa
I was at a small comic convention in Tulsa last fall and struck up a chat with an older guy named Frank who was just pulling out long boxes from his trunk. He told me he never bags his books from the 70s and 80s because he swears the plastic traps moisture over decades, and his collection has zero yellowing compared to his friend's bagged stuff. It made me rethink my whole storage system for my Silver Age issues. Anyone else ever tried going bagless for older books?

Oh, I totally get that. I tried bagless for my early 90s X-Men run a few years back after hearing a similar story from a dealer in Chicago, and honestly my books look as crisp as the day I bought them. My cousin bags everything and his are starting to get that dull, waxy look.

Frank sounds like one of those guys who figured out the truth before the rest of us caught on. Reminds me of how my grandpa always kept his old vinyl out of sleeves and said they stayed sounding better longer, which goes against everything you'd think. Sometimes the simple old ways just work better than all the fancy new stuff we overcomplicate.
