That day a dude in a Deadpool shirt argued the Atomic Age was better than the Modern Age

Was at a con in Portland last March and this guy wouldn't shut up about how 1950s comics had more heart. I told him to pull up a single story from that era that holds up against Hickman's Avengers run and he just walked off. Has anyone else had to deal with fans who act like older automatically means better?

Did you catch that one Podcast episode where they broke down Silver Age storytelling and basically proved it's all nostalgia goggles and bad editing? Those old comics had some wild plots that would never fly today.

Come on, those Silver Age plots were beautifully insane and the editing just added to the chaotic charm.

Read this breakdown in an old Wizard magazine article from way back that compared Silver Age plots to fever dreams written by people who definitely didn't have editors. The whole thing was basically about how the storytelling was wild but the art and color palettes were doing all the heavy lifting. I think people forget that nostalgia goggles make anything from childhood look better than it actually was. Plus half those old books had ads for sea monkeys and x-ray glasses, so the whole thing was pretty unserious from the start.
