The guy at the con who corrected me without being a jerk about it

I was at the Orlando MegaCon back in March, holding a first printing of a book I'd just paid $45 for, and this older collector next to me at the booth leaned over and said, 'You know that's a second print, right? Look at the spine code.' I checked, and he was right. Instead of laughing at me, he showed me the two tiny digits that separate a $45 find from a $10 one. That one tip has saved me from overpaying on eBay at least three times since, and it made me realize how many folks in this hobby genuinely want you to learn, not just lose. Anybody else had a random stranger at a con or shop drop knowledge that stuck with you way longer than the comic itself?
