The thing that bugs me about how people describe Batman's no-kill rule

I keep seeing new fans say Batman doesn't kill because he's a good guy or it's a moral code. But that misses the point, he doesn't kill because he knows if he starts, he won't stop. It's a psychological wall he built for himself after his parents died. Read Year One or The Killing Joke, it's right there in the text. Has anyone else noticed this getting oversimplified online lately?

Yeah totally, I read somewhere that it's like an alcoholic staying away from that first drink.

Nah, it's just a rule against killing, not that deep.

Hold up, wait - you're saying the "first drink" thing is just about the rule itself, not what the rule actually does? That seems like a weird way to look at it, idk. I mean, isn't the whole point of having the rule to make sure nobody crosses that line in the first place?
