Tried the new Batman comic after 20 years away. It surprised me.

I stopped reading comics back in the early 2000s after college, thinking they were just for kids. But last month a coworker handed me the latest Batman run by a newer writer, and I sat down with it expecting nothing. Has anyone else gone back to a series after a long break and found it totally different than you remembered?

Funny enough, my buddy @adam414 had the EXACT same thing happen with The Flash. He hadn't touched comics since the 90s but grabbed one on a whim last month and said the character felt like a real person now, not just a guy in a costume. It's wild how much the storytelling has matured without losing the fun.

Right there with you, the writing style now is way different than what I grew up on.

Yeah man, I had the same thing happen with X-Men last year. Picked up one of the newer issues and it felt way more grounded than the over the top stuff I remembered from the 90s.
