Wasted $80 on a box of discounted comics from an estate sale...
Thought I scored big. A whole long box for eighty bucks. Pulled the first issue out and it was a 90s variant that smelled like mothballs. Third issue had half the cover ripped off. By the time I got to the bottom I had maybe five books that were worth reading. The rest was all beat up copies of random series nobody even remembers. Shouldve just taken the cash and bought three trades I actually wanted. Anyone else get burned on those "mystery box" deals?

That "should've just taken the cash" part hits hard because it's the same trap I see everywhere now. People convince themselves a mystery box of anything is a shortcut to a deal when really you're just paying for somebody else's trash they didn't want to sort. Whole culture of treating junk like buried treasure just because you didn't pick it out yourself.

Exactly @mason_murray8, it's the same mentality that makes people buy those cheap tool sets from the hardware store instead of just getting the one good wrench they actually need. Or signing up for a subscription box for "premium snacks" and getting a bag of expired pretzels and a granola bar. Everybody wants to feel like they're gaming the system but in reality you're just paying for someone to offload their mistakes on you. It's pure FOMO marketing dressed up as a deal. The only ones winning are the sellers clearing out warehouse dead stock.
