Changed my mind about using dry bags for tool storage underwater

I used to just throw my wrenches in a mesh bag on my belt, figured they'd be fine since they're stainless steel. Then last month on a job in Port Arthur, I watched a guy drop a $400 torque wrench into the mud because his dry bag clip gave out. Am I overthinking this or do you guys actually trust those roll-top dry bags for keeping tools on deck?

The real problem isn't the dry bag itself, it's how guys attach them to their belt. Most of those aluminum clips will snap if you bang them against a pipe or a tank edge. What I started doing was using a carabiner with a screw-lock gate through the little loop at the end of the roll-top. That way even if the plastic buckle breaks, the bag stays clipped to your harness. Also makes it way easier to swap bags between jobs without untying knots.

Yeah that screw lock trick works good, reminds me of when I used a zip tie on a busted cooler strap once and it held for years.
