I always thought those little dive scooters were just for tourists in Cozumel
But I had to use a Suex XK1 on a big hull clean in Seattle last month, and it cut my bottom time in half. The boss said it would save air and let me cover more area, and he was right. Anyone else had a job where a scooter actually made sense?

My only scooter experience is trying to get a rental one back to the hotel after a few too many margaritas in Cancun (I did not, in fact, make it all the way). But hearing it cut your bottom time in half on a real job is pretty wild. That's a huge time save, which I guess means less fatigue too. It makes total sense for a big hull clean where you're just going back and forth. Maybe I should stick to mixing drinks and leave the real gear to you pros.

Oh, that's a funny story! But just to be clear, the big time save isn't really about going faster for the diver. It's about the water flow from the scooter blasting the muck off the hull as you go, so you don't have to stop and scrub as hard. You still move at a safe, controlled speed. It turns a brutal scraping job into something you can just guide along. The less fatigue part is totally right though, your arms and shoulders get a real break.

Forget the time saved, think about the extra gear you're hauling down. That scooter is just one more heavy thing to manage and keep from banging into the hull. Sometimes the old way with just your fins is simpler and less hassle.
