Just realized most guys are checking their bailout wrong and it's going to get someone hurt
I keep seeing divers on jobs check their bailout bottle right before the dive and then never touch it again until they need it, and that's backwards. On a dive in Port Arthur last spring I watched a guy crack his valve, hear the hiss, and call it good without ever looking at the gauge, and the thing was sitting at 2100 psi instead of 3000. It matters because a bailout you never verified under load is just a metal club on your back. What I do now is flow test it at depth on the first descent, watch the gauge drop, and log the number, not just the sound. Takes maybe 30 seconds and it caught a bad regulator seat on a different rig two dives later. The hiss tells you gas is moving, not that it's flowing right when you're sucking it hard at 60 feet. Who else here actually flow tests on the way down, and what number do you write off a bottle as too low to start?
