Ran into a saturation diver who said most of us go belly-up from ear infections not depth issues

After 6 years topside I always worried about the bends but this guy at the dock in Morgan City last month told me his crew loses more time to swimmers ear than decompression sickness... anyone else or is it just me?

Man if that's true then I should probably stop blaming my pickaxe ears on bad coffee and just accept I'm a walking infection waiting to happen. Guess the bends ain't got nothing on getting water stuck in your head like a toddler at the public pool.

Swimmers ear takes out half our dive shop every summer.

Half the shop getting knocked out by so-called swimmer's ear sounds like a convenient excuse to me. A few drops of rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide mixed together after every dive and you're basically immune to that stuff. Cora's place probably just has a weak drying protocol or people skipping basic hygiene steps. Real divers know you shake your head like a wet dog and tip the water out before it ever settles in deep enough to cause trouble.
