That study about nitrogen narcosis hit me different...
I was dead set on doing deep mixed gas work until I read a study from the Diving Medical Center at Duke. They tracked 400 commercial divers over 10 years and found something like 30% had permanent nerve damage from repeated narcosis hits. I always thought it was just a fun buzz you shake off... but that changed my whole mind about chasing those deep saturation jobs. Has anyone else looked into the long term effects and changed their career path?

Damn, that study definitely reevaluated my own views on deep diving.

Did you see that old video of the Navy SEALs going 200 feet on a single breath?

@keith164 that Navy SEAL video is CRAZY. What worked for me was just building up my breath hold slowly over a few months with a buddy timing me. Started at 30 seconds on the couch, moved to 45, then tried it in the pool. @sethm58 that study really does change how you think about the bodies limits, especially how our lungs handle pressure changes. I messed up once going too deep too fast and had to surface with a killer headache, learned real quick to respect the water.
